(28,789 posts)I've been sitting here thinking what am I missing? Why didn't the school search the backpack? I don't think they should be charged, but I do imagine they're kicking themselves for not having done that. I'm not even sure high school kids have a right to not be searched, but I do believe in this case, they had probable cause for a warrant.
It should have been done. Four kids dead. It's like a bad movie.

(55,007 posts)But holy shit this kid made some kind of cry for help or threat or something and nobody looked in his fucking backpack or locker? When my kids were in school they'd round them up in the auditorium and search them in there with dogs. Looking for drugs of course, not guns.

Law enforcement couldve done it but school officials cannot. They can ask a student to empty their own backpack and they definitely shouldve done that. But, they cannot take the backpack and search it.
