I've been sitting here thinking what am I missing? Why didn't the school search the backpack? I don't think they should be charged, but I do imagine they're kicking themselves for not having done that. I'm not even sure high school kids have a right to not be searched, but I do believe in this case, they had probable cause for a warrant.

It should have been done. Four kids dead. It's like a bad movie.

But holy shit this kid made some kind of cry for help or threat or something and nobody looked in his fucking backpack or locker? When my kids were in school they'd round them up in the auditorium and search them in there with dogs. Looking for drugs of course, not guns.

She’s an curriculum administrator for their public school system. I asked her about the backpack thing… she said there are actually very restrictive laws on switching backpacks. Law enforcement could’ve done it but school officials cannot. They can ask a student to empty their own backpack and they definitely should’ve done that. But, they cannot take the backpack and search it.

The school officials could only do do much without the cooperation of the parents. What were the parents thinking??
