(54,770 posts)that increases his taxes, as well as others. As long as his tax payments are legal, not much to bash.
Musk will be paying billions in this next year, and he paid over $400 M between 2014 and 2018. Maybe it should have been a 100 times that, but he paid legal taxes for a rapidly expanding company under tax laws in Democratic and GOPer admins.

(22,156 posts)There are many like this guy who, w/ their obscene capital gains that will never be paid (they'll never sell their stock (source of their wealth) and thus incur any taxable income), they simply will loan/borrow against their wealth and thus, never incur any income.
This reveals the greatest pitfall of the tax code in this Country, in that some of the greatest wealth generators will never pay a single dime in tax in this Country due to the actual triggers signifying the actual gain of income are never triggered deliberately.
This is not fair.
There should be something in place to kick in when such wealth is generated that a tax be paid, since they have made it clear and obvious to all (the holders of such wealth) will never sell their shares and thus never generate any capital gains that can be taxed, despite the already low rates of taxation (which republicans voted on too, when establishing the tax codes currently in place).
I don't think when the tax codes were established, that this was the intent of this wealth accumulation, or if it was, it's a serious pitfall of our tax code that needs to be corrected for it is wrong and unfair.

(2,550 posts)>"Elon Musk sold $906 million in Tesla stock Monday. As of Tuesday morning, he has sold a total of 11.9 million shares, according to InsiderScore/Verity.
Musk is making two kinds of stock sales one to pay taxes on his compensation package and the other for straight cash-outs, or to-pocket sales.
Based on his 10% sale target, Musk will likely only sell another $5 billion before the year is out."<
