Gabby Giffords was a professional motorcycle road racer. She owns a classic BMW bike she had planned to ride to the southern tip of South America.
She was elected to Congress as representative from AZ.
Then she was shot in the head from a few feet away. She hasn't given up. If she can stand this strong, why can't the rest of us?

(149,748 posts)The vast majority of Americans want to see stronger gun laws. The problem is inside the Congress, who need the money they get from the NRA.
We must get them to stand with Gabby Giffords too.
Rescue our America from the clutches of the gun lobby and the short-sighted NRA members who stand in the way of our safety.

(14,559 posts)In the '70s the NRA, then a safety and sporting advocacy organization, was taken over by gun makers. For the next 30 years they operated quietly and went un-noticed as the gun makers and sellers bought select law makers and influence to create a gun culture based on profit regardless of human cost.
The reasonable among us only noticed when gun violence hit us in the face. We are in our infancy compared to the gunners but we're catching up FAST. Back in the '80s there was only Handgun Control, Inc. (the Brady organization). Today we have Everytown for Gun Safety, Moms Demand Action, Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, The Violence Policy Center, and a host of other National Organizations.
Our spending is still less than the gunners but it's catching up. We are actively recruiting and funding anti violence candidates. And we're winning.
Every journey begins with a single step and we are a mile or two down the road.
