The Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection horrors are remembered by Members of Congress, Rep. Pete Aguilar, Rep. Pramila Jayapal, Rep. Ruben Gallego, and Rep. Ayanna Pressley, who were confronted with the violent mob that day. I think it's really important that we not whitewash what spurred and perpetuated this Big Lie ultimately resulting in this insurrection, Rep. Pressley tells The ReidOut. And that is White supremacy. CIVIL WAR and those involved in that were mostly exonerated of their complicity in that war and is starting to look like we are committing the same grevious mistakes
We have to uphold the rule of law
.WE CANNOT LET PEOPLE WHO ARE COMPLICIT IN AN INSURRECTION BE SET FREE TO GO BACK TO THEIR PLANTATIONS AND SIP THEIR PINA COLADAS AND FUND THE MOST IGNORANT IN OUR SOCIETY.

(205,507 posts)To return lands intended for Freedmen to their former owners so they would "owe" him. Robert E. Lee never experienced any consequences, went on to become president of Washington College which was renamed Washington and Lee in his honor even though he looked the other way when a KKK chapter was founded there. And his citizenship was posthumously restored in 1975 by President Gerald Ford. We are still paying the price for these failures today.

(12,422 posts)Hopefully, a narrative of truth will overcome the lies
somehow someway we must retell the story, the true story to overwhelm the Big Con and all the lies, but we have to bombard every airway, every media, every truth teller must be speaking the TRUTH, and each one of us has to start confronting the lies in our own community, however small or large it is
we CANNOT, MUST NOT, GO BACK TO CIVIL WAR or anything that simulates secession
.I personally am calling any one I know with tangible power to uphold DEMOCRACY
.
If that means speaking in your church, school board, state house, or any other public place where people gather and are influenced.

(6,918 posts)White guy here. Not to be all caste system and classes, but it seems lower-income and lower-education whites are the most demanding about whiteness as a key to power.
Their upward mobility consists of letting less-qualified whites crowd out better-qualified POC in the competitive marketplace. Their whiteness is their only redeeming feature, theyve abandoned politeness, eduction, enlightenment, and hard work as the keys to their success.
They just want an exception from the ordinary hard work it takes to succeed from someone who looks like them.

(4,552 posts)These people are being manipulated to believe minorities are the problem. This recipe of dividing people has been used all over the world for all of history. A scumbag named hitler convinced his people that Jews were the problem. Another scumbag named trump used immigrants. When the coal miners in Pa. started to organize the coal barons just hired a different ethnic group who spoke a different language. The game was easy from there. None of this is new. Perhaps blaming the pawns is wrong? I do get sick of hearing their BS though.
I wonder if we teach this recipe of manipulation in school? Of course not. We really need to teach this.
