2. I get it, about taking the 5th, criminals like that but, that cannot be the end of it, is it?

Can someone please explain what happens to someone who takes the 5th? It can't be that they get away with whatever criminal action the are guilty of, if that were the case the law could never prosecute criminals, they could commit the crime and then take the 5th, sounds like a get out of jail free card to me.

Someone please explain what the consequences of taking the 5th are please.

4. It means they are not providing testimony that might be used against them. Therefore...

...in order to get a prosecution, prosecutors need to rely on other evidence, and testimony from other people. Since that evidence and testimony usually exists, taking the 5th is not a get out of jail free card.
