Republican Sen. Mitt Romney condemned his party over a Republican National Committee motion to censure GOP Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger for their service on the House select committee investigating the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the US Capitol. RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, who is also Romney’s niece, said Cheney and Kinzinger’s work on the January 6 committee amounts to “persecution of ordinary citizens who engaged in legitimate political discourse.”
