"Change.org, the online social movement company founded on progressive values, has decided to change its advertising policy to allow for corporate advertising, Republican Party solicitations, astroturf campaigns, anti-abortion or anti-union ads and other controversial sponsorships, according to internal company documents.
Change.org allows users to launch and sign petitions, and the company has had some high-profile successes. Change.org currently operates under a values-based client policy, only accepting advertisements from progressive organizations that share its values. The new policy will be closer to "a Google-like open advertising policy in which determinations about which advertisements we'll accept are based on the content of the ad, not the group doing the advertising," according to a company FAQ sent to staff. The document was leaked to Jeff Bryant, an associate fellow at the Campaign for America's Future, a liberal organization, who subsequently provided it and others to The Huffington Post."* Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian breaks down the different ways of being 'for-profit' and what the differences mean for the public.

I closed my account today. I will stay away from that site as long as it strays from its original mission of grass-roots political activism. Use CREDO Action or SignOn.org instead.

"Save the Panda's" Not good. It might offend Walmart which buys a lot of shit from China and the pandas live in China when they are not in the zoo..
"Put a stop sign on my corner." That one's o.k.

(16,402 posts)[font color="navy" face="Verdana"]I just learned about this today. There's a petition out from SignOn.org that I signed. Maybe we can still get them to back off this idea and tell the RW to go get their own activism site.
Help spread this around. Tell Change.org to reinstate this whistleblower and to back off their jolt towards the right wing -- or lose our support and participation. There's a place to leave comments when you sign.
