My class did and Katharine Hepburn won! Needless to say, we didn't get her.

I managed to avoid the history department by placing out of a humanities course, but my fellow students said that he was an excellent speaker and professor. There was general agreement among the students and family members that it was one of the worst graduation speeches ever heard and it lasted 40 minutes. I don't recall any of it because I did the "wake and bake" that morning (commencement began at 10 a.m.) and fell asleep since they turned down the lights while the professor was speaking.

I feel ripped off compared to the class that graduated about 20 years ago who had Jimmy Carter as their speaker.

Reminds me of the graduation speaker at my boarding school. We were the last all female graduating class, the school was officially joining with our "brother school" across the river, so they obviously needed only one headmaster, and they chose the headmaster for the boys' school since our headmaster was well past retirement age - and had the philosophy to go with it. So my class voted to have no speaker at all, we just wanted it over with. But as a favor to the long-time outdoing headmaster, he was asked to say "a few words..." And he went on and on and on! When I finally got my diploma, I was chastised for not joining the (alphabetical) line of my fellow classmates, but I really had to leave the hall since at that point I had to find a girls' room...
