1. If recent history is instructive, we wouldn't even if we could.

Not if it deprived the war department of funding.
Not if religious crackpots can help it.
Not when when so many politicians are on the fossil fuels, payola dole.
Not with cultural and social apathy.
Here’s the big one, Not if we will be inconvenienced by it all.
The buck stops with we the people. We are ultimately responsible for our common welfare.

2. Sometimes the market I shop has buy 1 get 1 free sales. Does that do it?

But in a much more serious vein. The solution to climate change is to reduce the world's human population by 50% and that will require an abandonment of tribalism at all levels. Some see their tribe as the primary evidence of their participation in civilization. That's too bad because it effectively dooms all efforts to sustain our species' very existence. Of course, with the elimination of the human species, those surviving species rejoice, shouting with glee, "more for me!".

a little if someone invented a time machine so we could go back to 2000 and make damn sure Gore won instead of 911 Bush and Chaney.
