(250,542 posts)When I was in the very early grades, we said a "school prayer" along with the Pledge of Allegiance. All I can remember was that it ended with "our parents, our teachers and our country." Then one day we learned that we were no longer doing that - one student was asked to time a "moment of silence" where we could "pray to ourselves" if we wanted. Then that disappeared, too, and nobody seemed to miss it. And I was in elementary school.

School prayer (even though I don't recall it being particularly religious - and we lived in a fairly diverse community) was struck down in the '60s.

(250,542 posts)Too bad you couldn't sneak into the school and rearrange the letters. The kids would certainly find it outrageously humorous!
