Pandemic usually refers to a worldwide disease that spreads rapidly where an epidemic refers to sucha situation in a country/region/geographic area.
Yes, people are still getting sick and dying but it is not the entire planetary population at risk.
Sensationalization is facilitated by incomplete or wrong information.
