(2,412 posts)Compare the money pit of each family having to own and maintain a car and insurance to travel from one city to another! If we had high speed rail between the coasts and up and down the coasts it would relieve many of the burden of car ownership and it would be better for the environment. This is the job of a federal government. We can do so much more collectively!

(67,453 posts)it was supposed to connect LA to SF going up the unpopulated west side of the central valley with few if any stops. well all the lobbyists got it moved to follow the route of hiway 99 which ran through a series of large towns and cities on the east side of the valley. this made rail more accesible to more people but slowed it down and now it is not the high speed straight shot but a glorified local commuter line. And hugely more expensive meaning the contractors etc are all sucking up billions
