I was going to post the Geology Hub take on Mauna Loa but this one actually had better information, especially for islanders.

As an aside and a planet away, there are 6 volcanoes showing signs of blowing in Iceland right now. Any one of them could screw up air travel for a long time.

The one that has them all worried is Hekla. That one only gives about an hour's warning before she blows and has done a lot of damage in the past.

She had just paid the last bit of her fare for a European barge trip. The ash cleared for one day when she flew in and two when she flew out. The trip was one where you could hop off the barge at one end of a town and hop onto it at the other end after an hour or two of sightseeing and shopping. She loved it.
