'Putin has failed tactically and his military are performing pretty abysmally' - Admiral Lord West

“The Russians, having failed tactically and their military forces, are performing pretty abysmally. They’ve realised that they need to do something as a game changer.”

Corruption in the Russian army is causing troops to perform ‘abysmally’, former chief of the naval staff Admiral Lord West tells #TimesRadio.

People have been saying this for almost a year and still Russia is there. I think the experts are wrong. And Russia is winning. I think this is propaganda????

The saddest video I've seen is a recent one on Artur Rehi's site, a Russian soldier checking on his 5 or so chums in a trench and trying to wake them up and he's the only one capable of moving, probably because he had the last watch of the night and managed to eat something and keep moving, himself. Hypothermia is going to kill the guys Putin thinks are going to be fighting Ukraine.

Russia is now approaching 90,000 dead and probably three to four times that many incapacitated by wounds, illness, or just plain cold.

In addition, of all the tanks and other armored vehicles the west has estimated Russia has, many of the ones left have been parked for years, rusting with no maintenance, missing engines, missing treads, inoperable. They're now back to WWII, getting that stuff ready and moving it into place. What they do have is artillery., and old ammo can do damage even when it doesn't explode.

Zelensky has said the war began and will end in Crimea, and I think he's right. The Russians have lusted after Sevastopol and apparently what started the whole mess in 2014 was that after the revolution, they were denied access to it. I doubt Ukraine is going to be in any mood to give it up, either, since in Russian hands it would represent a loaded gun pointed at everybody around the Black Sea.

And one thing we all need to remember, Russia under the current crop of men in charge is expansionist.

Saw one clip taken from a Ukrainian drone where a Russia solider takes his rifle and pops himself. What a sad sad ordeal.

Getting shredded by artillery or cooked in an armored vehicle come to mind.
