If far-right Republicans could ever get their much hoped-for 'ethnic cleansing' (many, as you know, will openly admit it), Santos would be near the top of the list.

Just behind RuPaul, Billy Porter, and the lady whose house was "on fiyah!"

Oh, Georgie, there are some things you simply can't lie about.

I guess he never heard of Dixie and the "one drop" rule.

In Latin America, one of the most contemptible stock characters is of the Ladino.

Typically a mixed-race youth who, out of burning ambition, makes a point of out right-winging white right-wingers - convinced he (or she) will get a nice pat on the head afterward.

A plum job, say - or a corrupt business opportunity. And for some, it works (Chile's Sebastián Piñera is probably the best-known example).

But yes, as you pointed out - to their benefactors, they'll never "belong."

They may be invited to the ball - but they'll always sit at the kids' table.

plus a bit worse, people in NM cuss.

And you're right, they'll never belong. They'll be shoved up front in "see, we're not racist" photo ops, but shown the door when the cameras are put away.

That's a good synonym - and less racially-charged.

The only difference being, that vendidos can be of any race - whereas ladinos are often people who look like Santos; but who actively curry favor with right-wing white elites (at the expense of their fellow downtrodden) for self-serving reasons.

There are also alcahuetes (sycophants), chupamedias (foot-kissers), soplónes and bocónes (tattle-tales), lameculos (ass-lickers) - and so many other similar Santos-like characters.

And - as Lindsey Graham could certainly attest - today's GOP has become fertile ground for all.

I've heard the others, especially "lameculo," applied to anybody who is one.
