'Fetterman being open about this is amazing': Fmr. Sen. Boxer praises honesty on his depression

As we learn more about Sen. John Fetterman's battle with clinical depression, some are reminded that disclosing one's mental health issues used to be a career killer in politics. Yet, Fetterman is being praised by many for being honest about his condition. Former U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer and Rick Wilson, former Republican strategist and co-founder of the Lincoln Project, join Joy Reid to discuss. - The ReidOut - MSNBC - Aired on 02/17/2023.

If you injured your leg, no matter how it happened or what the stress, you'd seek medical attention. If you didn't seek help, everyone in the echo chamber would regard you as irresponsible and somehow mentally defective.

If on the other hand, you had recently suffered a stroke and yet overcame adversity to win a stressful public election, seeking medical attention causes many folks in the echo chamber to regard you as irresponsible and somehow mentally defective.

Just no winning with these assholes.

Good for Senator Fetterman for demonstrating to everyone how to deal with medical issues. This is good for the Senator, his family, his constituents, the American people and anyone in pain who might not wish to be seen asking for help.

As we have learned, the senator is doing the next right thing, not just for himself and his family, but in an effort to move forward.

Two weeks inpatient treatment for depression really caught me by surprise. Especially since he was just released from a hospital a week ago.
