i always watch when timothy snyder pops up in my yt feed.
this is rly interesting. i hadnt heard this term, but he rightly calls it out as hate speech. it’s being used to justify wiping out ukrainians.

Snyder also talks about how the term "russophobia" is invented to try to reflect the blame on the victim - how to make the murdered Ukrainians responsible for the invasion and atrocities.

This seems uncannily like the (r)epuglicons use of "CRT" or "woke" to demonize their enemies. It doesn't matter if there is any substance or evidence there, just that it is stated and put out into a media market that is willing to promulgate it.
