One of Newt Gingrich‘s most bizarre lines of attack against liberals and President Obama is that they’re basically working from the playbook of Saul Alinsky. This has been a rally cry of his for months now. Most of us who aren’t that aware of early 20th century political activists have no idea who the hell Saul Alinsky is, but luckily, Bill Maher gave everyone a primer on who this insidious man is on his show tonight. And what he discovered is that it’s not just Newt Gingrich, but also Glenn Beck, who has turned Alinsky into the latest liberal boogeyman. ... SNIP

2. special forces rescued two captives from somali pirates

in a successful raid. they only heard it had succeeded right before the speech tues night, and even then obama wasn't certain until immediately after the speech. there's a photo of him and michelle where he's on the phone getting (or giving?) the news of the hostages' safety.. very moving. Handled beautifully, low key.

p.s. The article says Wednesday, but it was Tuesday here in The USA.
And at the State of the Union address Pres Obama before he reached the podium hollered over to Panetta and said: "Good job tonight, good job tonight."
The reporters didn't pick up on those words until the next day when everyone was talking about the hostage rescue.
