(5,405 posts)I voted to Leave it Alone on a post parroting NRA talking points today because Skinner, et al have not taken a strong stand on right wing talking point infiltration here and the super vague TOS don't really provide guidance on these issues.
---------
Look you're getting it all wrong... repeat after me:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=2188593
REASON FOR ALERT:
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate. (See Community Standards.)
ALERTER'S COMMENTS:
This is the straight, undiluted, not even bothering to disguise, NRA talking point justifying putting armed guards in every school instead of doing anything about the damn guns. Plus mmmkay is just obnoxious. Please held make du suck less by hiding all of our NRA trolls every time they troll TOS checked.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Mon Jan 14, 2013, 11:56 AM, and the Jury voted 3-3 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Here's the problem with this. At DU there's been clear acceptance in the past of right-leaning Democratic positions and politicians which means a whole hell of a lot of Blue Dogs and DLC/New Democrats flood these boards with their right wing ideas on a regular basis and Skinner/Admins have never taken a serious stance on them. There is a precedent in place to allow their swarms at times and often allow them to proliferate their ideas.
The NRA is detestable as are the reflexive pro-gun crowd posts that seem to lack any serious thought or care outside of a selfish, greedy MY GUNS concept but a good portion of the party supports this rhetoric especially in rural areas and thanks to the consistent allowance of the right-leaning posters on the board, support for the NRA's stance and talking points (even if it isn't openly dressed up as support for the actual NRA) probably exists at a high 40% rate around here. Every pro-gun control thread is swarmed by gun nuts and nothing is ever done about this.
So until Skinner and the Admins take a stand and rewrite the TOS to be directive in taking on the right wing infiltration of the site that gives us a clear view of what can and cannot be accepted here at DU, this currently has to stand as it doesn't break any of the incredibly vague on purpose TOS rules as they stand at this moment.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Good guys with guns again. Sick of this shit. But I don't see how it violates community standards. He's just being a rude dick.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT and said: No explanation given
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(5,405 posts)I would love to see a picture of Ted Nugent aiming his weapon while being run over by a tank with the following text:
"THINKS HE CAN STOP GOVERNMENT FROM TAKING GUNS" on top, on bottom: "GOOD LUCK WITH THAT"

(2,642 posts)Nor is it marketed towards children in any way.
But nice try.
On Edit: It is a licensed app, but not published by the NRA. They did not develop it, nor are they promoting it.

(32,886 posts)"Official NRA Licensed Product."
You can't throw up a smokescreen big enough to try to obscure what that means.
Indydem
(2,642 posts)Just because it's licensed doesn't make it published by the NRA.
And it still isn't marketed towards children.

(32,886 posts)When Major League Baseball licenses a game, it means they are putting their name behind the game.
When the NRA licenses a game, they are putting their name behind it.
And if you click my link, you see the game is advertised as being for ages 4+

(12,041 posts)Of course they don't publish the game themselves, they are not a game publisher. By licensing out their name however they are giving their full seal of approval to the product and are responsible for the content.

any discussion of gun control makes him highstrung, paranoid, intense, emotional.

(3,530 posts)How do you stop bad people from shooting kids? Why, simply arm all the kids and teach them to shoot! Then we'll ALL be safe!
....do I need to add the sarcasm tag?

(11 posts)On a serious note, the problem is, if kids are never exposed to them or taught how they work, they become over stigmatized and that is when kids will really get hurt with them. I see absolutely nothing wrong with teaching how to shoot safely at a shooting range. There is nothing wrong with a responsible, regularly trained citizen who has a firearm. Indeed, someone who is very well trained is nobody to fear or make you feel unsafe. I think most people who fear guns really just don't understand the type of people that have them. I get the feeling there is this stigma attached to ANYONE who happens to own one when in fact there are multi-millions of gun owners out there. 99.99% are hard working people that would give anything to help someone in need and are some of the nicest people in this country, contrary to anti-gun peoples' view of them. Unfortunately, the stereotype comes from that tiny percentage that are indeed complete tools and very selfish and looking for a reason to use them. I most certainly am not one of them, nor are all of my family who are also gun owners.
...and I'm not sure this is true; there was lots of misinformation flying around, but I thought I heard that the Sandy Hook shooter was encouraged by his mother to learn firearm safety and training; she thought it would help him get out of whatever depressed mental state he was in.
Of course, if you ARE going to own firearms you have to be taught how to handle them safely, but that does not mean that a mentally unbalanced person might not then go out and "safely" use his firearm to slaughter innocent victims.

(50,928 posts)Do we really think playing a game that teaches someone to shoot at the range is the same thing as playing something like Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto where you actually shoot "real" moving people? C'mon now.

(1,448 posts)The NRA has a long history of gun safety education. A game for 4-yr-olds about guns is probably not a good move.
But more than anything it points to the NRA's tin ear.

(1,448 posts)They have a tin ear and should have dispensed with the silhouette targets... and the age recommendation of 4 and up violates the long-standing NRA mantra of kids shouldn't play with guns
....but
this is not a "violent" video game.
Target shooting is an Olympic sport.
