An in-depth New Yorker piece on hundreds of pages of internal white House memos and President Obama is broken down by Cenk Uygur on The Young Turks. Is Obama scared of Fox News? Did he really want to raise taxes on the rich?

(13,532 posts)And the New Yorker article is not short.
Attacking the messenger is one thing, but usually people at least (pretend to) hear the message first. And in this case you can read the New Yorker piece instead and draw your own conclusions.

(1,296 posts)Cenk is only the messenger. Please try not to shoot the messenger for truths which maybe uncomfortable to acknowledge on the whole.

(533 posts)that's just false, and an all too common excuse that many Democrats use when they wish to criticize left-wing progressives without criticizing left-wing progressive issues.
But Cenk sure seems to be hyper critical on this issue, and IMO he's wrong.
It isn't "devastating" to Obama to be made to be seen as too reliant on his advisers. Sure, that's a charge Obama may have to address at some point, but by no means will that information devastate anyone.
I'm a fan of Cenk, and TYT, but on this issue hes wrong

(300 posts)has been more hurtful to regular people than to Obama politically. Cenk is talking about the effect of Obama's policy decisions on the economy and the rate of recovery and not so much to Obama's prospects of reelection. This is insight into the opportunity costs of listening to Summers and Geithner.

(376 posts)I totally agree with tabatha. Cenk has always undermind the President. I know that reporters are suppose to report the truth no matter what in which I do support that. If the President broke the law in some way then it should be reported. But with Cenk, it's his commentary that gets me. For example he reported that the President didn't fight hard enough for Single Payer and he sold out the progressives on healthcare. Look the president can't write legislation. There was no way in hell that single payer was going to come out of that Congress no matter how hard the President fought for it. It's a miracle that he even got health care through. What I don't like about Cenk that he forgets that there are three branches to this government. Not once did he criticize the republicans OR the blue dog democrats in this healthcare outcome. Not once. He blames Obama for not going after Wall Street but never mind the fact that the President, with the help of congress, created the Consumer Finance Protection Agency to investigate Wall Street. Then Cenk criticize the President's handling of the debt celling. When clearly he had no power over Congress. I see why MSNBC canned him. Every Time I listen to him talk about the President, I am wondering if I am watching a show on Fox.

I mean (shrug) does he really NEED TO...given his audience, to repeat the obvious? Don't ya kind of think that might be just a given already? To tell you the truth, I never expected him to give the *opponents side* of things because I just figured it really wasn't worth the air time...or else why would anyone be watching Current TV to begin with unless they ALREADY KNEW BOTH SIDES TO BEGIN WITH and are entirely frustrated and are looking for another outlet to perhaps offer up another opinion/option/rendition in which case Cenk DOES deliver 110%!!!

(376 posts)Hummm. The President is up among democrats 88%. Nuff said.

(14,274 posts)Can't you bring your level of discourse up a few notches? Being rude and calling other DUers and Democrats names reminds me of some of those boards we take to task here daily.
How does your comment add anything constructive to this discussion? Do you think it would be possible to edit the insults from your post and make your point in another fashion?

(13,532 posts)Both that response and the comment that he/she was responding to lacked substance and failed to address the content of the video.
All of us can get incredibly frustrated with each other at times but at the end of the day we mostly agree on our goals even if we disagree on how to get there.

(236 posts)This simply confirms things I've been seeing for a long time. For all you blindly obedient "quit hating him or he'll lose" folks, how did that strategy work in 2010? Simply accepting that this is the best we can do and hoping Obama will win in 2012 because the Repubs are even worse is insanity! "all it takes for bad men to win, is for good men to do nothing."

(17,301 posts)If Obama had been a RepubliCON he would have been considered very successful. He continued the bush tax gives away to the uber rich. He kept private health insurance alive and well. He increased the surveillance state and allowed for the ever expanding jailing of our citizens. He gave our money to the banksters and continues to ensure the wealth of the 1%. He protects war criminals and never holds the corporations accountable for their crimes. He buys into the RepubliCONS fear mongering of budget deficits, social security needs fixing and free trade agreements.
Then he tells us how he can't do anything progressive. He's so busy being a RepubliCON he has no time to be progressive.
A lot of people watch Cenk and agree with him. Cenk is very good at not being blinded by the right.

(14,622 posts)If anyone reads the memos, they will see it is not mean old congress forcing Obama's hand,
it is Obama acting out of fear of Fox news and also always trying to appease republicans.
He is afraid of Fox news. Just like in the United Kingdom, they are afraid of Rupert Murdoch.
