Keep the Feds Out Of School Lunches (Thom Hartmann vs. Independent Women's Forum fellow)

Thom Hartmann debates Julie Gunlock, Senior Fellow-Independent Women's Forum & Director-IWF's 'Women for Food Freedom' project, who says she's all in favor of doing away with junk food in school vending machines, but not if the Federal Government is making the rules.

My comments:

Basically Gunlock was concern trolling throughout this interview by suggesting that only LOCAL school boards instead of the federal gov should be qualified to make school nutrition guidelines, repeatedly going off on "bureaucrats in Washington". Gunlock also suggested that some children are STARVING because of the health guidelines based on this story out of Chicago: "Workers who serve meals in Chicago Public Schools say the majority of kids are not eating the healthful new foods on the cafeteria menu, according to a confidential survey released Tuesday."

Yeah sure, taxpayers should subsidize junk food and obesity in children. No way! xtraxritical Feb 2013 #2

then they could always buy some outside of school, anyway. I think schools should be allowed to serve it in addition to the health food.

nutritious foods too, then you aren't too hungry. My kid doesn't have pizza, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, and french fries at the house every night. Its a very seldom occassion that I make any of these and never all together in one week (the school serves these items way too much as it is, at least the french fries are now sweet potato fries and the pizza is made with wheat flour).

If a child really is starving or lacking food at their home, they will eat the entire plate out, and there is enough variety normally, to pick the veggie and fruit the child would rather have. If I could only get them to eliminate the chocolate milk. They are still serving that shit.
