(66,481 posts)the combatants were standing even closer to each other than the film depicts.
Every line of dialogue spoken during the scene is taken word-for-word from the written accounts of the gunfight.
One notable omission from the film (that I suppose the filmmakers thought would ruin Val Kilmer's portrayal of Doc Holliday) that happened in real life: Doc Holliday returned to his hotel room, sat on the bed, said to his girlfriend: "That was awful", and burst into tears.

(66,481 posts)The shootout took place in October in the mountains of Arizona. It was actually cold that day; it had snowed the night before, and there was still some snow on the ground when the gunfight went down. The film depicts the day as hot and dusty, with several characters visibly sweating.
