http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2155422/Cat-surrogate-hens-clutch-eggs.html

Some parents would say that looking after four youngsters is hard enough.

But after giving birth to four kittens in a chicken pen, a stray tabby cat has become an unlikely surrogate mother - to a clutch of hen's eggs.

Lizzy the cat has made herself at home in the pen and now takes turns with the mother hen to look after the unborn chicks by keeping the eggs warm.

Cats have a mysterious sensory organ that enables them to telepathically sense exactly where you least want them to park themselves, even when you yourself may be completely unaware of the possibility of said location being a potential Cat Parking Place.

They do not always choose to use this knowledge, but when they do, you can be certain it is because they're aware of something lacking in their environment.

Like stimulation.

Or (most commonly) gushy food.

helpfully,
Bright

the eggs on top of the rectangle are merely an inconvenience.

Put any rectangle on the floor...and the cat will be drawn by instinct to park on top of the rectangle.

We marked out a spot on our floor with blue masking tape. It was literally just the floor, but a rectangle. Cat spent hours sitting there.

The cat is actually sitting on the box. Cat's own all boxes, even if their occupied by other things. It's instinct.

At least he trying to make himself smaller. Giving the eggs a chance to remain.

They do weird inexplicable shit daily.

The bigger question is why the humans put strange markings on the eggs

Pay the proper attention to your feline overlords. Whatever you were working on was less important.
