Such a pita to have to download it just to run one thing.

(1,257 posts)It is surprising that it is still around.
If I remember correctly, Apple and others stopped supporting it because of security and stability concerns.
It is so unnecessary in this day and age, I think some of its continued usage is caused by laziness.

(37,457 posts)Someone can correct me, but are there legacy applications that MUST have Flash (ugh)?

(1,257 posts)There are for sure a lot of stupid outdated Websites that use that crap.
One would think that when huge entities like YouTube dropped it, the world at large would move beyond it.

(37,457 posts)I got back a snotty reply saying, paraphrased, it takes a lot of work and time to do that. Yes, I was polite when I asked them.
Finally they upgraded.

(32,823 posts)...and I can tell it to "allow" flash on the website, and it remembers the next time I come back.
You probably don't want to "allow" it across the board, especially if you're going to strange or unknown places. But you can set it to "ask me" and then gives you the option of yes or no for Flash when you visit new sites.
I don't think Internet Explorer has this feature, and I'm not sure about Foxfire or the others.

(18,837 posts)1). I am a Web Designer...have been one since 2001.
2). I designed a number of my clients' sites in the era in which everyone was using Flash (I used it for contact forms and photo galleries).
3). In 2015, Firefox blocked flash due to too many malicious exploits,
4). In 2015, I needed the money to drive from Nevada and relocate in South Carolina
5). I contacted all of my clients that had Flash content on their sites, explained the Firefox situation, and they agreed to my rebuilding all of that content with alternative methods.
6). In one week I raised the money to pay for the entire trip...gas, food, lodging, and arrived with $400 left
So...I LOVE ADOBE FLASH (but for that reason only).

I used JQuery solutions for the photo galleries.
Everything works fine.
