The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSo we went to Olive Garden today
There was a festive family occasion to be celebrated.
No, there was no breastfeeding while I was there (at least none that I noted).
So, they have two dishes on their menu that are pretty similar. One is a dish that consists of steak medallions topped with gorgonzola served over fettuccine. the other is steak medallions encrusted with parmesian served over a bed of tortelloni. I ordered the first one. My meal came. I was hungry. I started eating. I got about half way through when a very contrite server came over to announce they brought me the wrong entree. They brought me the second entree by mistake.
They could have simply kept their mouths shut. I told them it was no problem; I was enjoying what I'd been served.
Instead, I got to keep the "wrong entree" and received what I ordered in a to-go box for no additional charge.
It's not winning lotto, but it's little things in life that sometimes make me happy.

(31,997 posts)We ate at Carrabba's this weekend, they brought dessert to our table. We told them we didn't order any but they said the kitchen sent it to us.
Very good food. Very good for sure.

(45,558 posts)But Mrs WCGreen and I like to go to a few local spaghetti joints.
There are about five really good Italian Restaurants within three miles. I did like Olive Garden and Carrabba's but prefer the personal touch of having the guy who makes the recipes come out and ask how things are going...

(10,000 posts)I know many people don't like OG -- especially my friends who grew up in greater NY/NJ.
I like the small Italian restaurants that are true family operations. The good ones are true gems. The problem is finding the good ones.
Olive Garden has consistency, and there is a something-for-everyone quality that makes it appealing for large family meet-ups. I think it's a combination of the salad/soup/breadsticks course and the sheer size of the meals that leaves no one feeling hungry when they leave.
I gather you had no inclination to start an argument over breastfeeding?

(45,558 posts)I stayed away since I am not a parent.
But I must confess, I am a breast aficionado and any time I get the chance, it's a good thing...
Now hovering over a child and making pretend they are the most special little creature that ever walked the earth and so you let them do or say anything no matter where they are, that is just plain wrong...

(28,394 posts)When they brought me a salad dish by mistake, and I had already started serving myself some salad, they came and grabbed away my dish. "No salad for you!"
I will never set foot in that incompetent operation again.

(23,339 posts)I assume the "free" meal is coming out of the server's pocket. So I make sure they don't go into the red.
Plus, that carry-out will make a good lunch, or more likely, two good lunches.

I had fun but I also was usually given lee way since I was able to always sell the drinks...

They were EXCELLENT!!! You couldn't get them by themselves, I think it was a choice between
steak & langoustinos... and snowcrab legs and langoustinos.
.
.
.
About 6 of us went one night, and when my order came, they had sent me steak and lobster
TAIL. I told our waitperson that I had REALLY been anticipating the langoustinos and I would
wait for the "re-order". I tried to pass her my plate and she told me to consider it a "free"
appetizer.

It wasn't the lottery, but it wasn't really a "little" thing in life.
