"May you live in interesting times"
I got that one way back when the fortune cookies 1st came out. There was a large Chinese pagoda style lantern & I was about 10 (I'm 60 now). I thought the fortune was good & read it out loud.
The waiter smiled-leaned in and said-it is actually a curse!
I know what he means now......We are in very "interesting" times I would dare say.

I remember one time in high school out with friends at a Chinese buffet. One of us got a blank slip of paper so being giggly teens had fun telling him he was doomed once he left the restaurant.

(2,533 posts)Of a old saying like don't carry the weight of the world-or it takes a village.
You see this every so often especially in instruction manuals. Just a guess.
