(47,552 posts)He seems like a pleasant enough fella.
And he also might be the greatest guitar player going. A couple of his videos dealing with picking strategies were, for me, mind-expanding.

(65,010 posts)I do a lot of that rapid fan picking thing myself. I can do legato quite easily but my ear tends to want to hear that attack on most of the notes. I don't do a lot of hammers or pulls because of that. If i do legato, it's because i'm doing an entire phrase or run with no picking at all. Hence, i was always drawn to Morse's style.
When he filled in Deep Purple, he was incredible. There were a couple of his own things where i wasn't nuts about the tone, but when he just loads up a Marshall, awfully good.

(12,132 posts)Steve was playing for them. It was a great show and at a pretty small House of Blues so I could get up close. I don't know what all them guitar words mean but I know what I like.

(65,010 posts)Well, when it comes to guitar, it applies to me! Piano too, i suppose. I just find it very amusing that someone with "geek" in the screename calls me out for being a geek!
I plead guilty!

(12,132 posts)because I looooove listening to it. I hear a lot of those words but they are over my head. A (FB) friend of mine builds micro-tonal guitars. Some really crazy fret things. He talks about it all the time and I'm like "Yeah, Ron, cool - shut up and play" lol! (He's also in a band I like...have their record on clear vinyl - but he is local to me so I see him at shows occasionally)
the worst part is I have owned at least 5 guitars (and still have 2) but I would never practice so I don't know how to play a lick. I have two keyboards and can mostly just pick out melodies but not actually play anything. I grew up in a house that had a piano and my stepfather played both piano and coronet (Sometimes at the same time) (annoyingly but he did it) but I hated him so much I never wanted to do anything that had anything to do with him. But damn I wish I had learned to read music.
