it's starting to get old. every night i wake at 3:38AM. no alarm or anything like that. nothing going on that SHOULD be waking me. no noises. no AC kicking on. not waking uncomfortable or hot or anything.
just annoying. i'll get back to sleep in an hour or so...

(36,298 posts)For your brain to know exactly what time it is and then for some unknown reason, cause you to wake up.

(12,017 posts)that I have just returned home from a business trip where I did NOT wake at that time. seems like it must be environmental. just cannot think what would be happening at that time to wake me.

(2,675 posts)For months in a row. I don't know what it was. 4:17 was it.
Is there any explanation for this kind of thing?

(16,926 posts)We often worry about lying awake in the middle of the night - but it could be good for you. A growing body of evidence from both science and history suggests that the eight-hour sleep may be unnatural.

drinking can also shorten your sleep (even though it may initially make you sleepy).
ProdigalJunkMail
(12,017 posts)and life is pretty good...so I am not sure anxiety applies...but I suppose some self examination might be in order. the 3:38ness of it is what is bothersome...

(34,051 posts)not really sure about the time or what it means. it's kinda cool. maybe something for you to think about/figure out. is it an old address?
i go through periods that when i glance at the clock when i go into my bedroom the time just happens to be my address. am or pm. i'm not sure what that means either.

(24,470 posts)it is frustrating, isn't it?
ProdigalJunkMail
(12,017 posts)not so sure what to think of it. like i said upthread, seems like it must be environmental; i just can't figure what happens at 3:38 every stinking day...

(149,614 posts)And then I've heard that your body gets used to waking up at that time, and so a rhythm is set up. A schedule, if you will...
That may be what's happening here.
Hope you get past it! They don't last forever, though it might feel like it.

(12,017 posts)it's really not soooo bad. it is only about an hour before I normally get up anyway...just weird.

(53,410 posts)I just get up and get on the computer until I have to get ready for work. I don't mind it anymore. It gives me hours of downtime to do what I like before the grind of work.

(5,670 posts)I think it could even be something like an automatic sprinkler kicking off down block, or something similar. I'm asleep when it happens, so....I don't know!

(20,234 posts)so I could be awake to listen to what the heck's happening at 3:38.
ProdigalJunkMail
(12,017 posts)a couple of weeks into this oddity...and there was nothing that I could pick up that should have woken me up. I am beginning to wonder if there is some sort of low-level vibration or something that is just out of my ability to consciously sense.
it is a mystery...kind of a fun one.
