I have the first 4 seasons on DVD & hope to be able to get the last 2 seasons some day.
During the show's 6th & final season, John Lithgow commented to several media outlets that Third Rock had been moved to "more than fifteen different time slots in six years, causing it's ratings to decrease substantially."

(7,300 posts)But I prefer fresh ideas and content (Scrubbs is pretty recent so I wouldn't mind that reboot) rather than rebooting or remaking even the best of old shows. I'm the same way with movies unless it's an updated version of one due to advances in tech and therefore special effects. King Kong is a good example of a movie that deserves an update so Kong looks even better and realistic.

red dog 1
(27,797 posts)You're right!
Ernie Kovacs was a genius... and he died way too young.
He was killed in an auto accident on January 13, 1962...he was 42.
Jack Lemon, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Billy Wilder and Mervyn LeRoy were pallbearers at his church funeral.
Attendees at his funeral included:
- Groucho Marx
- George Burns
- Edward G. Robinson
- Kirk Douglas
- Jack Benny
- James Stewart
- Charlton Heston
- Buster Keaton
- Milton Berle
There was no typical Hollywood-eulogy.
The church's pastor paid tribute to Kovacs, adding that he once summed up his life in two sentences:
"I was born in Trenton, New Jersey in 1919 to a Hungarian couple.
I've been smoking cigars ever since."
pangaia
(24,324 posts)Then there was Steve Allen...😊
red dog 1
(27,797 posts)"The Steve Allen Show" was originally on CBS and ran from 1950 to 1952.
After it's cancellation, in June 1953, he created a late night show on the New York station,
WNBT-TV (now WNBC).
The following year, the show went on the full NBC network as "The Tonight Show"
In June, 1956, NBC offered Allen a new, prime-time Sunday Night variety hour,
"The Steve Allen Show," in an attempt to dethrone CBS's "The Ed Sullivan Show"
Besides doing the Sunday Night variety show, Allen remained the host of "The Tonight Show" for 3 nights a week.
From 1962 to 1964, he started a new late-night show, "The Steve Allen Show" which was a
5-nights-a-week taped show that was syndicated by Westinghouse TV and was broadcast from an old Vaudeville theater on Vine St. in Hollywood.
This show was my personal favorite Steve Allen show, featuring such odd-ball guests as health-food "nut" Gypsy Boots and comic Professor Irwin Corey.
Frank Zappa appeared on the show one time.
Sorry to ramble on, but since you mentioned Steve Allen.....

(3,769 posts)If all the fans who have seen it now wouldve seen it then, Firefly wouldve broken ratings records. Joss Whedons short-lived space cowboy series has become the de facto one-season wonder, and has found a legion of fans in the years since Fox pulled the plug. Thankfully, all the love is well deserved. Firefly put together a motley crew of future stars and set them off on the wild west of space, with a clunky space ship, a whole lot of Whedon-esque humor, and a deep sense of family to tie them all together. It was pure magic, and well always have The Train Job.

(17,193 posts)... well, the "rebooted" part is, the "instead of Rosanne" is a no-brainer.
But rebooting a show is problematic, whether it has new actors or the same old folks recycled. The show is usually a relict of its times, to begin with, and we are not the same viewer we were then. Mind you, I am opposed to "remakes" on principle, since it seems lazy to me to re-tell the same stories over and over and over... although it sometimes works, as in the first remake of "The Front Page."
