(2,842 posts)I like cats but I like dogs more and that's what I have. I especially like the Bullmastiff breed: smart, loyal, alert and playful to a limited degree.

(21,020 posts)would love to have a cat but that's not possible here.
The dogs have free in/out access to a fenced yard, which means the cat would also, which means it would likely jump the fence and get lost or eaten in the woods.
I'm a German Shepherd person.

(2,842 posts)We had an all black German Shepherd and she was a wonderful dog. They are top notch friends and protectors.
Bullmastiffs have an innate sense of time - I guess most dogs do - and want to run the household which I don't
mind. I like the fact that a bullmastiff's first instinct is not to bite but to knock an intruder down and hold him down.
