For me, it would be reading a mystery (not on Kindle) when it's rainy and windy outside.
With my cats nearby, preferably. All of us tucked in warm and cozy.

And perhaps some hot chocolate??

I spent last Saturday, during the wind storm, reading a book about end of the reign of Elizabeth I leading to, and about, the reign of James I. The history of the Tudor and Stuart monarchies absolutely fascinate me. I truly do get lost in the times. I've never understood the need for historical fiction when the real events are so gripping.

Just read a book on Thomas Jefferson. We had our own fascinating stuff going on in this country as well.

Medieval/Renaissance through The Regency Period and, strangely, the early 1930's. The first is pretty vast, but the threads are so fascinating to follow. I have no idea where the connection to the '30's comes from, but when I watch films from that era, I feel a tug of memory. Weird.

Ancient history is my go-to. Right now I'm reading a history of the Julio-Claudian family, early Roman Empire rulers. My god, what a crew - could show the Lannisters a trick or two.

So my simple contentment: The comfy chair, a cuppa Stash Breakfast in Paris tea, maybe a bit of chocolate and some rip roaring history. Life is good.

Nuthin' like some furballs curled up close. The mystery is a great idea but these days I find it hard to stick with one. Oh well, as long as I enjoy it while reading, does it matter if I don't finish it?

Some of my fave writers in the past have been Rita Mae Brown and Sara Paretzky. Also Sue Grafton.

A Book of Verses underneath the Bough,
A Jug of Wine, a Loaf of Bread--and Thou
Beside me singing in the Wilderness--

...
A Thought for Mr Khayyam

The poet Omar wanted only
Wine, a loaf, and thou
To satisfy his hungers
Amidst the endless Now.

But he's a guy, and
Maybe love is not enough for him.
Perhaps he needs distractions
Before he can begin.

But I will lay me down with you
Wherever we may be.
And drink intoxication from
The everlasting We.
