Not my Zeppelin though. He hates water.

We were on a dock on a lake one time. There was an older Golden retriever hanging out that Zeppy was, annoying the shit out of. He can be quite dominant with the big dogs. Well the Golden had finally had enough and hip-checked Zeppelin right off the dock into the water. He's completely freaked, dog paddling at 100 strokes a minute. I reach down to pull him out, and he thinks dad's got him so he stops. Little guy sank like a stone! He came back up dog paddling at 330 strokes a minute! Eyes as big as dinner plates! Felt so bad for him, but truth be told, couldn't help but laugh.

I couldn't get my dogs to even set foot in a baby pool. Even when I got in it and encouraged them with toys. No way, they said. And one was a Cocker Spaniel....who supposedly will run into shallow water to get birds!

We took her with us to Lake Erie last summer. (Geneva state park). She actually figured out how to ride a wave into shore .... Like Doggie body surfing. She was about a year and a half old.

However, she absolutely hated the ride in the car. How many dogs hate riding in the car? She trembled and finally was sick once we got there. After a swim in the lake, she was fine.

We've been taking her on short car rides ever since to get her used to a car. She's a little better now .... But gosh I never heard of a dog that ran in the opposite direction of an open car door and the prospect of a ride with Mom and Dad!

And when I took him for walks, we had to give any parked cars a wide berth, he was that afraid of them. Of course, I adopted him as an older dog from rescue, so either he wasn't used to cars or had bad experiences. I even tried getting a sedative from the vet for necessary longer car rides, but it didn't help much, it mainly caused him to drool. When he started having age-related mobility problems, I took him for acupuncture which helped a lot and he did start getting more used to car rides, so practice seemed to help, but I can identify.
