Was looking through my dresses. I had moths a year ago and they have destroyed

my two favourite ones. Don't want to know about the rest. But it seems that man made fibers are not attractive to the little flying assholes. At least there is that.

2. I had a major infestation several years ago... they left a rolled up silk hand knotted rug

I had brought home from overseas--in shreds....Of course they went through all my wool, but they love all natural fibers, so I still occasionally find cotton t-shirts and shells with little holes in them. Caught me totally off guard since I guess I thought the altitude and arid environment would deter them... NOPE

The few things I thought I could salvage went into large airtight tubs with dry ice (CO2 kills them). Smaller items were air-packed and put in the freezer for several weeks. I bought a two stage growth inhibiting treatment which you spray around the carpet and baseboards--especially in closets, but pretty much anywhere you can. Then I bought those hanging devices that trap the "larvae" to be able to tell if I have new infestation--in every closet.

I also "refreshed" the cedar in two big chests I had and put nearly everything I could in there.

To this day, though I LOVE Pendleton wool, I am very wary of buying anything wool again.

My Mom always used those horrendous (and toxic) napthalene moth balls. I never wanted them around my dog (or me), so I don't, but I guess that's why.... Most of the alternatives don't work so well.

Good luck!

bookmark your advice. Thanks. I had used cedar balls everywhere. I thought I had won but the little flying assholes obviously won.

if you have or even think you have moths, put the clothing in the dryer and run it on very hot heat for at least 30 minutes, preferably longer.

No, nothing will shrink because you're not putting them in wet. The heat will kill the moths and their eggs.

The conventional advice is to put them in the freezer but often they'll just hibernate and revive once at room temperature. The dryer is the way to go. Plus, I don't know about the rest of you, but I generally don't have that much room in my freezer, but my dryer has plenty of space, and I can always do two or four or more loads as needed.

5. I have them too! If I put my winter clothes in an airtight container over summer...

Will that kill them? The little pests are flying around in my bedroom walk-in closet and bathroom. I haven't found any holes yet but also haven't looked through everything. Not happy about this at all.

Obviously they ate through the closet while I was not paying attention. But only in the closet. I had cotton dresses on the door to my room and they are fine. Read up on the advice I was given above. I'm going to put all my cottons and wools in the dryer.

a few bucks a bundle. We place those in every closet, drawer, store bin, etc. Works great.
