I gave that to my my father-in-law one year and he loved it. He showed it to everyone - "Look what that no-good son-of-a-bitch son-in-law got me for Christmas." It was his absolute favorite gift.

Get two big car-wash sponges; stack 'em and cover 'em with icing, decorate it with nice icing frills, write Happy Birthday in icing, etc. Then ask the guest of honor to carve.....

a BARREL of laughs!!

I did it to my uncle for his 70th--he's still mad at me!

I gave him a rearview mirror that has the words "objects in mirror are closer than they appear". He loved it.

Did the same for a friend's husband, and she reports (years afterward) that every now and then he takes it out of the drawer, looks at it from different angles, shakes his head and puts it back. Cracks her up.
