Today is my birthday, I'm 28. Yay...
Anyway, a lot of my family is working today, my mom is sick with strep throat, so I don't think a party is in order obviously. So for those who enjoy birthdays alone. What could you suggest for me? Thank you.

(2,447 posts)Getting a massage, pedicure, new hairdo; Taking yourself out to a restaurant you've been dying to try, spending hours alone in a bookstore or library, drive to a lake or edge of town and watch the sun go down with your favorite tunes on the phone, go buy a hammock and a bottle of champagne and relax, make a new recipe and serve it with the best wine, treat yourself to a handful of Audible.com books, sign up for dance lessons, take a long, relaxing bath or go sit by the lake or pool, go to the plant store and buy something pretty for the yard or patio. Learn to celebrate yourself at this early age and you will never be lonely!

This is my 60th birthday in October.
When I was 28 I had a 4 year old kid.
Both parents alive and well.
I weighed A LOT less and had most of the organs
I was born with. I was facing my second surgery.
I've now had 15.
Get your favorite drink..pepsi or whatever
Your most loved movie, book or album.
Pet if you have one. Order your favorite meal
And thank the gods your alive and well.
(I hope your well.)

(62,444 posts)I spare my family and friends the puzzle of figuring out what to do for my birthday, because everyone knows I'm going to take off for some solitude on that day. It's my birthday present to everyone else.
I used to just go for a long loop ride, but they started taking my camping hammock and some other stuff along in panniers.
The first time was, I'll admit, a little weird with the sounds of the forest closing in at night, and I'm pretty sure that other people at that state park thought I was some old drifter or something. Last year, a couple of folks in an RV came over to my campsite to give me leftover bbq chicken from their dinner.
But... I'm around people all of the time, and actually being alone is a real treat.
vercetti2021
(10,156 posts)Mean I wouldn't rule it out for the near future. Camping around here is very slim to none since we don't have forest areas. But being alone is a treat sometimes. I just like being around others myself.

(3,515 posts)interesting things to see.
And I would buy an ice cream along the way just to celebrate.
Happy, happy birthday. You have no idea how wonderful it is to be young and have all kinds of exciting adventures before you. Remember to think about that.
And go to an interesting ice cream shop.
You never know who you might meet while eating ice cream.
vercetti2021
(10,156 posts)I think you're right. But...with ice cream comes cake! So I think Baskin Robbins will have to be on my list. Right next to the Dunkin Donuts.
Sophia4
(3,515 posts)I don't want to gain any more weight now that I lead a comparatively sedentary life so I limit my ice cream to once or twice a year. It's really hard to resist the temptation.
Enjoy your youth, and definitely eat ice cream (and cake) on your birthday. You burn the calories faster than you will in 40 or 50 years. Enjoy it.
And walk as far as you can as often as your legs will take you where you want to walk.
Enjoy being young. You only have this day once.
I have led such an interesting life. Unbelievable. Opportunities must be taken. Including the opportunity for a good walk and a Baskin Robbins visit.
vercetti2021
(10,156 posts)Though I shouldn't be eating sweets anyway. I'm a bit overweight as it is and even I don't think 40 minutes of exercise can keep off sugar! Reason I should be a bit careful today, ice cream with coffee. But enjoy dinner with a personal pan pizza and one slice of cake.

(11,631 posts)Instead of a birthday, think birth week or month and pencil in all kinds of indulgences and dinner with your mom when she is up to it. Enjoy yourself.

and yesterday was my birthday which I spent alone... so
Try to eat something today that is exotic or an old favorite. Treat your to a nice meal... and since eating alone out can be awkward, try ordering something from Grubhub or similar take out service.
Even better, try to eat a meal with someone you know but maybe not all that well... you don't have to tell them its your birthday unless you want to.
vercetti2021
(10,156 posts)And wow...my birthday is the same as his. Kinda sad now thinking about how close he was to his birthday
But...I will do pizza I think for dinner. Lunch I think a freebie meal.

(2,050 posts)I've spent more than a few of my birthdays alone and I have a suggestion.
Do what you want to do, what is your wish to do if given the time and money?.
A movie, a museum, a concert, a good book, a gathering of like minded people having fun doing whatever sounds good.
The possibilities are endless, just pick one and go for it.
If you end the day with a smile you made the correct choice.
What makes you happy?
Works for me.
Enjoy
vercetti2021
(10,156 posts)I got a movie I think I'll go see, but what makes me happy? I'm not sure. Family being around would be nice. But my time I just wish to sleep a little more today before wanting to do anything.

(29,728 posts)This is your first Saturn return and the universe has given you this gift to reflect on the past cycle of your youth and to ready yourself for your next cycle of adulthood.
Don't look on this as a punishment. This is the gift of reflection that allows for your growth as a human.

(29,728 posts)Just know that this moment in time is perfect for you to think about yourself-not your body, job, friends or family; but your SELF. Who are you? What do YOU want truly? What have you done that was good on the way to that goal? What wasn't skillful in your approach?
Have a cup of tea, take a comfortable seat and make friends with yourself. That's a great gift to you from you.

(10,156 posts)I want to be a writer. I enjoy making up stories in my had about fantasy, science fiction, the supernatural. I love fantasy. But who am I? A simple Texan man just wishing for a better life in the near future and I sit here wondering how I will achieve that.

(29,728 posts)Just start putting words on paper. Don't edit, just write. Write one page a day. Build your chops. That's my advice. I too am a writer.

(51,053 posts)writing down where you want to be in 5 and 10 years. Them decide what you need to do this year to get you there. Put it in writing and then commit to yourself that you'll get it done. Then eat a cupcake!

(8,445 posts)I wasn't raised in a family where a big deal was made out of each and every birthday, so I can't necessarily give you advice. Maybe a good thing to do is to set some reasonable goals for yourself to accomplish in the coming year. I try to do that for myself. I reach some and some I don't reach.
vercetti2021
(10,156 posts)I can understand. My family is super close and celebrates a lot of different stuff that can just be out of thin air. So it's hard to think of what to do alone. I did a movie since it was heavily suggested. No regrets.
