I live in a formerly rural area & all the small patches of open land are being converted to real estate.
A dozer cleared the hill above our area and they have a sign up for more homes being built.
And returning home tonight I see a small wild rabbit-shunting back & forth at the fence now blocking where he probably went to go home. But its all gone now & there is nothing there for the poor creature. It may find a new home but being in the open by a road-I doubt he'll last long.
I'm beginning to hate what we have become.

(19,826 posts)Few acres of forest, been there the 45 years we have lived in our town that used to be part of a horse pasture and a lot of the deer would come around, now since they tore it all down and building 18 houses we see many, up to eight or nine deers just picking through the bare construction area.

(22,758 posts)bears are such a problem even here in Northern Vermont (humans infringing on their habitat)... my entire way of life has changed because the bears so frequently visit here... no bird feeders... lot of electric fence around my bees and chickens... no compost (or trash containers)outside... I don't go back in the woods after dark... I have never been too concerned for myself but because there are so many here now I will not take any chances...
the bears also use the bike trail here

(25,621 posts)no bird feeders, no compost, no vegetable garden, etc. Oh well at least I don't have to worry about them hurting me.
