It was a steamy evening in June. Leon County Sheriff Deputy Randall Pacchioli drove into the parking lot of the Woodrun Baptist Church on Apalachee Parkway and noticed a group of children crowded around a parked truck.

“The kids were all fascinated by something under the truck,” said Deputy Pacchioli. “So I walked over and crouched down beside them. Right next to the front tire was a tiny kitten; it looked to be about two months old, and it was scared to death.”

Without hesitation, the animal lover scooped up the kitten.

“It didn’t scratch or bite; it just snuggled into my arm.”

2. My cat has a "bob tail"!

She was a dehydrated little 4 month old kitten I found in my neighbor's driveway. I thought she was dead when I saw her. At first she couldn't walk, she has no strength. I took her to the local vet who declared her well, just dehydrated. Once she drank some water she was better. There had been a litter of kittens roaming the area at the time, and I think her Mom just abandoned her when she couldn't keep up. Well my girl is now 12 years old. I always wondered if her Dad was a Bob Cat. We did have a few in the area back then.

4. There used to be a lot of Manx cross bred kitties around here

With short tails. The only kitty I ever paid money for was one of them. He was at a pet store and I paid a whole $5 for him. I named him Bob since we got him the week the first hurricane named for a man formed. Bob ended up being the most expensive cat I ever owned.

One of our mares had foaled and we had been warned by her previous owner to not get into the pasture with her and her new born. The day after her filly was born we were admiring her across the fence when Bob strolled under the fence. The mare reached down and grabbed Bob around the rib cage, shook him, and threw him about thirty feet. bob hit the ground running and sheltered at our feet.

We scooped him up very carefully and took him to the vet's where he was X-rayed and examined. They found nothing wrong so we brought him home. About a week later we realized there was something wrong with Bob's abdomen so we took him back to the vet. Bob had a hernia from one hip to the other. While the mare was shaking him, his hips had swung, stretching and tearing his abdominal muscles and tissues. Bob had to be stitched back together at a cost of quite a few hundred dollars.

Bob survived and lived to a ripe old age of 16, but he never went into a pasture with horses again!

6. That's a remarkable story of survival.

Your Bob was one feisty, tough kitty kat. I'm sure the $$$'s you paid to have him repaired was earned back over those 16 years with love and affection. RIP Bob.

7. Bob was a cool cat and we loved him very much

The vet gave us the option of putting him to sleep rather than spend the money. We were glad we had the money to spend on him.

3. I had never heard of the St. Francis Wildlife organization, impressive work!

5. They are a local wildlife rescue group and do great work

If they weren't so far from us I would have volunteered back in the day when I was able. But they are about forty miles from us as the crow flies, longer by road and it is just not feasible even now even if my health allowed for it.
