http://www.prescottaz.com/main.asp?SectionID=1&SubSectionID=1&ArticleID=106290Well, not "mine", but...
The Bird Cage was the first place I walked into after moving here alone. It's where I've met most of my closest friends in Prescott. I met my husband here. My son worked as a bouncer, celebrated his 21st bday and had his send off to the Marines here. I've spent many July 4ths, New Years and Memorial Days at this bar. The owners were friends along with most of the staff. Many of my friends played on their stage. I fell off my first barstool at The Cage (without taking a sip from my first g&t of the nite). I got a bloody nose on the dance floor...twice. I watched, and participated, in a few fights. I've been going to this bar for over 11 years. Not as much during the past few years. I'm getting old and tired. But, when the husband or one of our friends plays in town, we'd always stop in to say "hi".
It wasn't a political place. Hell, it's Prescott. 90% of the people here are Republican. But, when I dared venture into political discourse, it was never a debate, just a discussion between friends.
I don't know why I'm posting this here. I've tried to avoid saying exactly where I live in AZ. But, I think it's like going to a psychologist. I've talked to my friends and family already. Now, I just need to spill it to someone neutral.
Glad I still have The Lounge. No threat of it burning down and I doubt that I'll ever get a bloody nose here.

They had some of the best bar music I've had the pleasure to hear.
I lived in Prescott for a year in the mid 1990s, and traveled there many times in my
younger 'motorcycle enthusiast' days.
I wonder if we've met. Or, if you've seen my husband or friends play. Small, small world.
Thank you for making me feel better about posting this. I felt a little weird doing so.
Did you ever hear/see Buddy Reed play there? My husband was his piano player.

(33,028 posts)I do get a feeling of enjoyment thinking back to that time.
Again, sorry for the loss of such a good dive.

(12,272 posts)Sorry. Hopefully insurance money will build you a new hangout. Sad about the historic buildings though, I have always thought Prescott was beautiful and quaint.
Wait Wut
(8,492 posts)It's "just" a bar, right? People are losing battles all over the world, but this is just breaking my heart. There's a lot of history in that place, including the bar that was over 100 years old.
Oh...and Prescott used to be "quaint". Now, it's a hate-filled teafest of a hell hole. It is still beautiful, though. One thing that gave me hope, the little convenience store next to The Cage was totally lost. It was owned by a Mid-Eastern family for...ever. A few people in town have started taking up a collection for them. It actually made me cry. I watched their little girl grow from a baby to a beautiful young lady. Her dad used to stand on the sidewalk with her when bands were playing so she could dance. The bouncers at The Cage and Mocs more than once stepped in to "correct" assholes that would make bigoted or derogatory comments about the family. They may have all been Republicans, but bigotry and racism were never tolerated.

As for The Lounge burning down...NEVER! Although you may want to stay out of H&M to avoid bloody noses!
Wait Wut
(8,492 posts)...everytime I see your name I think of all the blues bass players I've known. Most of whom have played at The Cage. A few of them could form complete sentences when they weren't stoned out of their gourd.

(55,008 posts)it is like losing a home. I haven't been to Prescott in decades. Had some fun (read WILD) times up there in the late 70s. Ah memories. and they are part of why the loss is intense.
