My mom died recently, and I don't have any kids. Not all women are moms or still have moms.
On a scale of 1-100, (where 1 is a minor itch and 100 is a cancer diagnosis or a Republican getting elected), this rates about a 5. It's very small annoyance, but still....

I actually hate the damn day.
But will buy roses for my 2 nieces, their Mom and their Grandma......cause they are awesome Mommies!

My condolences on the passing of your mother, I can understand why you would find it annoying.

(70,692 posts)mainly because the ones who do it are almost certainly wingnut chickenhawks. But also I'd like to be able to wear my vet's paraphernalia without having attention. But as somebody replied to my gripe about this, regarding my "shadowbox" shirt of my duty stations (below), "If you're wearing something LIKE THAT, you're just ASKING to be noticed!1" But I'm talking about even my Navy/Vietnam ballcap, oh, and one of my dogtags - is that a bit much?!1
On Edit: Condolences about your mom and your feelings. I hope my post is not off-topic or trivializing. And, just to clarify, I don't wear this shirt often, just at veterans' and national holidays, although I wear the ballcap and dogtag ALL the time.

(11,816 posts)Not sure what else to say -- I have sometimes, however, bought a serviceperson a drink or paid for their fast food if they're behind me in line somewhere (all I can afford to treat for is fast food!)

(53,410 posts)Not one. It's the most liberating thing I ever did.
But I don't get upset if someone wishes me a happy mothers day or birthday. It's simply not important to me, and if they like doing it then it's fine with me.
At work I always request that my manager not announce my birthday and so far they're OK with it, but when it's someone else's birthday I will sign the card and eat the cake. I'm a firm believer in live and let live. I just don't buy into the commercialization or being forced to celebrate something just because some social rule says I have to. That just creates guilt.
