MWAHAHAHHAHA LYE-BERRY, BABY!!!!

So here I am at the library with what seems like instantaneous speed (probably people complain about how slow it is - they should come to my house)

first thing I need to know is: am I safe to check my bank balances and do stuff like that here? or is there some way to set something so I can be secure - wouldn't want anybody to sneak in and pay my maxed out credit cards or anything.

Hey MFM, send me any info ya got if you are on between now and noon or so - boys don't go on the computer anymore - the youngest has a smart phone with unlimited data (the little fucker)

a while back somebody at your former company told me I could take his account and use it on a usb modem and he could get a new account with a new number and the 5 g or whatever, but the last person I talked to about it said no way.

This isn't too bad down here, except no tunes and I can't get any housework done (oh well) plus no food or drink dang! WTF? no food in the library??? The air-con is REALLY nice. I wonder if they would mind if I brought a sleeping pad and my pillows?

OK off to look around - no DU for 3 days makes Kali a grumpy bitch.

IE, I'm assuming. It seems to be the preference of most libraries. That's what I'm going to give you information on.

When you're looking at a page where you have to log in, there should be a "locked padlock" symbol on the bottom right or in the address-bar depending on which version of IE is running.

Look at the address-bar, see where it says: http:// ? Change it to https:// the s is for secure. Some pages will not work in https://

Assuming they're running the most up-to-date version, somewhere in the menus is an option for "In-private" browsing. That will prevent it from saving log-ons or passwords. When you close IE, it will erase all cookies and saved information from your browsing session.

If you're still unsure, ask a librarian or library assistant for help, that's what they're there for.

Because it's your own computer you don't have to worry about cookies or stored information or stored passwords being accessed by the next user after you.

In Firefox, when logged into a secure site, the http:// line will say https:// and the area all the way to the left in the address bar will be differently colored (what color would depend on what theme you're using. Mine is ocean blue, I think that's the default color.) from the rest of the bar and have the name of the website in it. Like this:

(You may or may not have the key depending on what plugins and add-ons you have installed for Firefox.)

When you hover over it, it would say something like: "Verified by: VeriSign Trust Network" or "Verified by: " the name of whatever SSL-certificate issuer is verifying the site.

VeriSign is the biggest one and most likely to be used by a bank. Some major banks (like Chase) have their own as do the major credit-card issuers (Visa/MasterCard) and certain very high-volume websites that transmit financial information like Google Checkout and PayPal.) A SSL-certificate (Secure Socket Layer) is a piece of code that makes sure that nobody else can assess the information being transmitted and that the information is being directed to a web-address that matches the ones on-record with the verifier as the correct ones. It'll tell you if it doesn't match.

There is always more that can be done but that's generally sufficient.

managed to get that posted yesterday - apparently just a few minutes after I walked away too.

BTW - I fired that org. I talked to you about - and filed a grievance with the ins. "turnover" was the excuse - yeah that happens with incompetent management. jeebus.
