He would get my favorite Carlos Santana shoe, or my bra and I would be so desperate to get it back I'd open a slice of cheese and give him a bite so he'd give it up. So one time I only crinkled the cellophane on the cheese and I grabbed the shoe without handing over the cheese. The VERY NEXT TIME I tried that maneuver, he dropped the shoe, and put his paw on it waiting for the damn cheese. Spoilt ass mutt.
