I was up in Chicago getting enlightened yesterday.

First stop on our vacation was Memphis which is something my wife had wanted to do. I enjoyed that more than I thought I was going to. We stayed at the Guest House at Graceland and it was fancy schmancy. I'd never stayed in a hotel so nice. And actually seeing Graceland and learning about Elvis was very interesting. We also visited the Civil Rights Museum while we were there as well as Sun Studio. And we had some great BBQ at Marlow's. They say Elvis ate there.

Then it was back to the house for a day to get a little beer drinking in. Then we headed out to Chicago to do something I wanted to do on our vacation. We were originally planning on staying in Memphis for a week, but serendipity came along and adjusted our plans. After I had put in for my vacation at work and before we had finalized all of our vacation plans, I just happened to run across an event taking place at the Infinity Foundation in Highland Park, IL, a northern suburb of Chicago. Two of my heroes were going to be there during the time I had put in for vacation and at such a time that it fit in perfectly on our schedule.

Eben Alexander is a neurosurgeon who had a near death experience and was made famous by his book Proof of Heaven which was on the New York Times bestseller list for two years starting back around 2012. He has since published a few other books including one with his partner Karen Newell called Living in a Mindful Universe. Karen also co-founded a company called Sacred Acoustics that produces binaural beat recordings for meditative purposes.

Jen and I were there with them along with a group of about 40 people for about 7 hours yesterday. Both Eben and Karen traded off giving talks with Q and A sessions, and we also did a couple of group meditation sessions. I am going to look into group mediation more now. Those sessions yesterday took me deeper into meditation than I had ever been, and I think it being in a group was the reason why. I also got to ask Eben a question that was very important to me that I've had going through my mind for a long time. He gave me a wonderful answer. I also got their autographs on one of my books.

Me on the left with Eben.

Me with Karen.

I'm glad you both had a good time, seeing new places, making new friends......and exploring new ideas.

I have a bumper sticker on my car that says God is Love. I took that from one of the books of John in the New Testament, although I'm more of a universalist than anything as far as religion goes. But, like many Christians, my goal is to become more like God. And I think that means exhuding love.

The people at the Infinity Foundation might tell us that we are all God. Most of us just don't know it yet.

That's where the old saying "namaste" comes from. It's sort of like saying the divine spark in me recognizes and acknowledges the divine in you.

Namaste, my dear Peggy.

center in Chicsgo . Glad you enjoyed your sound experience
Have a friend he is working with healing bowls (sound) at nursing home visits one of his joys is the connection the seniors are making in themselves
Although I live in Chicago I have been to Memphis many times . I love it . Just one of my favorite places & I will be back again
Sorry the cold made it to Chicago when you did!

I know the weather starts to get tricky about this time of year up that way. But Saturday was beautiful despite the temperature drop. Crisp, clean, and sunny. We had a great time while we were there.

Nothing too fancy, but it was nice and clean. We were only there for Friday night. My wife wants to take a vacation in Chicago proper at some point. We'll probably stay at a nicer place if we decide to do that...if we can afford it.

We live about 5 hours away from Chicago, so we just drove on in there.

Exurbs, but much closer than 5 hours. Would take me around 75 minutes to get downtown on a weekend (or wee hours). Now if it's a weekday morning, all bets are off!

Probably 90 to 100 to get to Wrigley, but if visit our friends in Wrigleyville, a little less if we go on a day with no game.

There used to a be wonderful boutique type music store in Highland Park we would go to. Then another similar concept store opened in the far south suburbs and there was no reason to drive that far anymore.

The company i work for has the R&D site and business HQ up in that area.
