"The Female Doctor changes the game!" I disagree.......

I saw that bit of text advertised on BBC America....and I was thrown aback.....

Dr who is an amazing television program. Sorry, that should have added an explanation point...or caps or something. AMAZING...something like that.

But The Doctor is a concept of hope and triumph of the (human?) spirit.....

And wile we are having a celebration of women not only achieving greatness (history spoiler, they started “greatness”) but also being recognized for it, unfortunately this time I think it’s a bit off. Or maybe not......

I’ve been a Doctor fan for decades.
And a s a fan, I can truly say the game hasn’t changed a bit. Which is awesome. The Doctor was never masculine nor feminine, and in an age of gender ambiguity ( agin, older than historians) I’m glad to see the “game” running as beautifully as always.

Jodie Whittaker IS the Doctor. Not Ms. Doctor. not Mr. Doctor........

THE Doctor.

And isn’t that what we’ve been aiming for?......

agree or disagree with you. I haven't been a fan for that long. But I do think Jodie Whittaker is AWESOME.

It changes things for millions of little girls who get to see a Doctor that looks like them. It matters to millions of little boys who asked “The Doctor’s gonna be a girl?” and got to have conversations about how, well, yeah, why not? The Doctor’s an alien that regenerates into a new body- why couldn’t/shouldn’t that be a woman sometimes? That’s happened with other Time Lords.

It doesn’t fundamentally change who The Doctor is any more than most Regenerations do. And actually aside from one or two comments here and there the show actually hasn’t made it a major issue, and probably shouldn’t. She’s not acting different because she’s female. But is it a game changer? I say yes. Representation matters. And acknowledging that isn’t a bad thing.

FYI, huge Doctor Who fan (Classic and New) and very much enjoying this season. Jodie Whittaker is doing a fantastic job, and loving the new Companions.

Isn’t that my point? Isn’t that THE point??

When we stop grading, meriting, awarding, TREATING everyone differently, then we all become “people.”

Then it doesn’t matter what so called “race,” “gender” or “preference” you sucbribe to, we as “Humans” win.

Hillary didn’t want to win the presidency for Women, she wanted it because she believed she was the most qualified American for the job.

Jodie isn’t a female Doctor, she’s THE Doctor

These markers and milestones are still noteworthy. The pushback to the casting points that out. It’d be nice if these things were no longer noteworthy, but until that’s the case, 🤷🏻‍♀️ people will celebrate it.

And the election of the first female president will be a BFD. Hillary knew that. She acknowledged that. Many of her most ardent supporters were very vocal about it.

If you’re not in a particular marginalized group, it may be hard to understand the power of these kinds of moments. If you’ve spent a lifetime in the group that’s not the default? It means a lot the first time those barriers get broken. Let people enjoy that (or ask the “why couldn’t they be...”

My baby and I were stoked when the Supreme Court acknowledged our right to get married in the eyes of the state......but by then we had already both committed ourselves to each other. We had no need of anyone else’s permission to know we loved each other.

I do respect the fact that Billy crystal’s role in “Soap” helped many Gay men feal comfortable in there own skin....

But as a mildly evolved skin-werarer I am baffled why this is conversation is still ongoing....

Not yours and mine, but the “deferent definition” BS.
