Yes, we'll be gracious and fawn over the food - but, lord, he is a terrible cook and his wife is even worse. He insists on ham instead of turkey, she does a 5 layer casserole that defies description and it's wine out of a box every year. Dessert is store-bought pie or some type of thing (usually pretzels) dipped in chocolate. Yet, it gives them pleasure to have the family around the table, so Happy Thanksgiving to all.

(16,296 posts)I enjoy Thanksgiving- The brined turkey that soaked for a day in orange juice and white wine with its crisp skin, the heavenly smell of pumpkin pie, the thick gravy poured over just perfect bread stuffing, the Brussels sprouts slightly caramelized with pecans crushed over them and the sweet potatoes drizzled with brown sugar.
There is only a few more left for me and my wife to enjoy so we do have our own private dinner later in the week.

(25,855 posts)I currently live about 800 miles from family. This year I am going there, but I've more than once fixed a full Thanksgiving dinner just for myself.

(176 posts)Since my hubby has passed, I still will do the whole meal for myself. I love turkey and we used to do the meal together and had such fun making it. (That was the only time he would step into the kitchen) Now I feel like he's kinda still around when I do this...I haven't always got the cash for all that food, so it's become an every other year thing, but it's still great!

(31,388 posts)from my husband about 2 weeks before Thanksgiving. My boys weren't speaking to me. I had a frozen turkey dinner on Thanksgiving.
Today I bought a turkey breast and will have mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, peas and mushrooms, and pumpkin pie to go with the turkey breast this Thanksgiving. My oldest son will come Saturday to help me move to a larger apartment in my building and I will take him and his partner out for an alternative Thanksgiving dinner afterwards. They are going to a no family friends only event on Thanksgiving day.
Progress!

(2,678 posts)will be flying in from Hendersonville, NC this week. His being a Conservative, Southern Baptist, FOX News watching Republican means two things; no religion and, absolutely, no political talk. Other than that we get along famously. 😳🤪

(54,378 posts)We are having about 20 people over, have ordered a turkey weighing about 16 kilos, stuffing and cranberries from the U.S., and all sorts of local veggies. My wife is a master chef, and it always works out fine. If anyone is in the neighborhood, we can always fit on or two more in.

(22,252 posts)my sister in law's mother usually makes tamales for just about any party. Always good. We all bring something. I have cake and rolls, every year. Sometimes I do a side.
Probably mashed potatoes, maybe mac and cheese, green beans,
I'd be perfectly happy with the tamales
