I live in Toronto - and I've been here over forty years. But my family is in the States, as well as many of my on-line friends, plus people here at DU - so I am always acutely aware of the holiday, because everyone is talking about how it's Thanksgiving!
So on Thursday afternoon, I went down to the convenience store on the main drag two blocks away - and couldn't believe that all the shops, restaurants, etc., were all open on Thanksgiving - it took me a minute to remember that it's NOT Thanksgiving here.
I had been living here for years before I stopped thinking that businesses would be closed on the 4th of July.
