Being a Geek on a very, very tight budget.

Although I work 50 hours a week and my wife works part time at about 30 we are struggling to make ends meet. Part of it is paying off some "Parent Plus Loans" from our three kids College Loans and the rest is probably living in one of the most expensive places in the country. (Fairfield County CT)

I am an addicted internet geek. I spend more time than I will admit too surfing and You Tube listening. Since my youngest bricked my old Netbook years ago I have not had my own Laptop and have had to use the Families i-Mac. Unfortunarely it's always in use so I use my 3 year old Samsung s7 instead. (with cracked screen)

Well yesterday I found an amazing buy online for a Umidigi Z2 Pro for all of $45. from https://www.roeswow.com/ It's normally a $300 mid-range phone with great specs and a large screen. Face Unlock, wireless charging, fast charging 128 gigs of storage thats expandable. Plus 4 camera's, 6 gigs of Ram, and best of all Pure Android. Can't wait for it to arrive.

A few months ago I found a Acer Chrome book refurb for $95 that's amazing. and before that a GPS enabled smart watch for $58.

It can be done. Best of all I really don't feel any of these items are sub par. They all do exactly what I need. I get my toys and keep my marriage intact. Win- win!!

I found Gear Best as a good sight too. BTW.

Happy geeking.

Kevin

If you still have the bricked laptop try installing Fedora (Linux) on it. CentralMass Nov 2018 #1
I think I'd stay away from Umidigi - not a very good review here: Dennis Donovan Nov 2018 #2

For only $30, you can buy a fire 7 tablet: https://www.amazon.com/All-New-Amazon-Fire-7-Tablet/dp/B01GEW27DA/ref=sr_1_acs_bss_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1543156738&sr=8-1-acs&keywords=fire+tablet

Also, keep an eye out for used laptops - you can get an early-gen core i5 w/ 4GB ram for next to nothing. Happy hunting!

That review is quite old. It's not a fake lense, it was just a software issue.

Besides....I paid $48 bucks or so. If it truly sucks...off to ebay it goes.

Thanks for the tips though.
