Over the past 24 hours I've slept as much as I want to.

About 14 hours, and it has been a glorious thing.

Some of you may have noticed that I've been belly-aching about working a lot in recent months. For the past 5 months I've worked 11 hours a day 6 days a week aside from a week's vacation that I had in November. Well, they finally got someone hired on to help us out.

I went to see a spiritual advisor recently, and we came to the conclusion that my work schedule was thinning out the protection of my soul. I could feel it to be true in my bones. She said I needed to be more of a squeaky wheel at work if I wanted things to change. The fact that I haven't complained too much was contributing to the perpetuation of my soul-sucking work schedule.

So about a week ago, I called the boss and asked him if it looked like someone else coming on might be on the horizon. I mentioned that I was getting tired. No more than a week later he had someone coming on to help us out. Starting now I have my second day a week off back. I'll have Sundays and Mondays off now.

What a relief.

The money has been nice, and I've paid off a lot of debt over the past five months. I no longer have any credit card debt and Christmas is paid for. But at what price would I have continued? Where the soul is concerned, it's worth more than the money.

rather than the live to work philosophy. I think it's one reason I tend towards the idea of community and shared burdens. More of a European (dare I say socialist?) approach to life. I am definitely at odds with the hard right capitalist approach that permeates American culture. It is soul thinning.

I'm glad to hear you are back to a more normal work schedule. Enjoy it!

when we lived in the states and he was responsible for so much. He could never turn his phone off and we were arguing a lot then too. It was all stress related. Even on vacation he would have to take calls and do meetings over the phone and I said ENOUGH of this shit. He finally admitted that the work/life balance was making him miserable (or lack thereof). I said, let's go back to Europe (where he grew up) so that we can finally have a life again. We've been back here for about 4 yrs and he really likes his job and we have nights and weekends off again. Phew.

Nobody on their death bed says they wished they worked more. Thank goodness your boss hired someone and I hope that person works out well for you too. Cheers.

When you have a position of responsiblity.

My Son was in a postion to retire early after being on call, as your husband was. He is now enjoying his life.

But many are not able to do that. They are in a position with many factors that make it impossible. I really feel for them.

I semi retired to part time, but then the PTB had a reason every week to work me full time. I finally retired. Seems they do not understand they lose the best workers that way.

I am glad you got relief.

family had their jobs eliminated (which we suffered through too) and/or had their companies close up shop completely. I don't think there is job security anywhere anymore and that is the biggest stress of them all.
I hope the younger generation fixes that so that they don't have to live through what we have.

In my extended family. Lay offs, plants closing, jobs outsourced. That is the result of weakoning worker rights. Even health care. People stuck in dead end jobs because they are afraid of losing that.

We have lying, cheating in our elections. Situations like the losers in Wisconsin, Michigan, North Carolina. Brazen hiring of known criminals to fix an election. Crooks in the WH, selling our soul to make money by the Saudis and Russia.

It is worse than in Teddy Roosevelts time. FDR had to clean up Hoovers mess. Clinton did the same for Reagan/ Bush. Then Obama had to pay off the Bush wars. Republicans fought him all the way. Now Trump and Mitch, the worst crooks of all!

When will voters wake up?

it's so frustrating. I can't believe those 30% that still support 45? Those people are in denial. Crooks all of them.
