Quick update on feral cats

Both captured and taken to vet.

The gray tabby turned out to be a lost pet, now reunited with family. He had been missing for a few months - at my house, it seems. The vet found a chip and located the owner. Turns out the cat, named Sam, did miss a series of shots while missing, so we paid for it. But he is back home now, safe, sound, and healthy.

The blue we called Jasper was also captured and got a check-up - shots, spayed, the whole nine yards. Healthy and was adopted by a tech and the vet wants her to be the Vet's cat. So she's at the vets during the day and goes home with the tech at night. She's coming around to people but still hides more often than not. The tech will be her mommy and owner and the vet will keep her healthy for no charge as long as Jasper comes to work each day.

Rural area - Jasper will keep any vermin out. I was told she's already earning her keep.

I didn't get photos, sorry. Plate full with a husband and sister dealing with health issues, as well as everyday life. It was all I could do to get them to the vets. The cats - not my sister and husband.

Just thought some would want to know.

Thanks!

Solly

My entire life is now the ferals in our area. There is something very special about caring for them.

If you are on Facebook, I would love for you to join our group and see what we do!

I'm not on Facebook, sorry.

I do know how rewarding it feels to care for them. I miss Jasper and the Mean tabby (what I called him - he hissed at us for the longest).

I'm also glad they're where they belong now. Lot of worry off my shoulders.

Fortunately, no more strays around right now. I'd do it all again to help though.

Thanks for making time to take care of the ferals.

I might be in some denial. I swear that the cats that live in my heated shelters and eat my food and whom I bring to the vet to get spayed and neutered are not my cats.

They both felt like mine but I knew they couldn't be mine. We have three dogs and a small home. Need a bigger place to add more pets.

Still, felt like giving my babies away.

They got to the point they would both sleep in the rockers on a cushion. It's been a mild winter so far, aside for a couple of very cold nights.

I'm happy for the cats though.

My last rescue was a momma cat and her litter of three. I trapped them all and found homes after the kittens were between eight and nine weeks old. (They were about two weeks old when I managed to track them down and put them in my bathroom.)

But one of the things that makes it easier is that their owners have been texting me photos of the kittens as they grow up--wonderful photos of them playing with their kids and other pets. And the momma---who wasn't feral, but had been an abandoned stray for several years--found a great home with someone who is home all day, on disability.

Maybe the owners would send you a photo every once in a while?

I would have cried for days over kittens. As it is, one good cry did it for me.

If another stray comes along I will do the same. Can't stand the thought of an animal suffering.
