(11,803 posts)But damnit! They filmed it in Cleveland! I don't get it either. North Hammond looks just like the movie. Woulda been great to have been filmed here.
There's a second Jean Stapleton movie about Ralphie. Can't remember the name of it. It was pretty good too.
Glamrock
(11,803 posts)Griffith is right next door to Hammond. Just before you hit Gary, birthplace of the Jacksons.
Glamrock
(11,803 posts)The say in the movie, downtown Hohman, I realize. Hohman Avenue runs through downtown Hammond. Ralphie's school is in Hammond. The author is from Hammond.
Guess which of your favorite, very liberal rockstars, who frequents this site daily and has a penchant for posting Humble Pie and Faces videos was born and raised in Hammond? Hit me up if you need another hint.
Part of the reason it has such a huge place in my heart! (Ahem, Mr. Scorpio. Witcho grinchy ass! )

(32,133 posts)That's very cool.
Have you ever visited the house in Cleveland where it was filmed?
Glamrock
(11,803 posts)But I did visit the museum in Hammond.

(11,803 posts)I was cursing fluently, in kindergarten. And I had it down too. There was no bitchdick or asstit. I knew how they all went together. 30 some years later he's going to lecture me on dropping f bombs in front of my 15 year old nephew while we were bowling on the Wii. Really? Really man? Do you know I taught my whole kindetgarden class to curse? Guess where I picked that up? He was none to happy to be informed of that!
My dad, too. Although I didn't repeat what I heard from him at school. lol
Every year, setting up the Christmas tree, trying to get the damn thing straight .... hearing him let out a string of expletives .... one of my "fondest" Christmas memories ...

If you love the film, you must read the book it's based on In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash by Jean Shepherd.
