I've surfed quie a few different waves, Atlantic and Pacific, and usually did OK. I only surfed Pipeline once. It hurt. It hurt a lot. I did terribly. I don't know how Mr. Slater did what he did on this wave, but I will tell non-surfers it's even a lot harder than it looks given the surf spot. At 46 (nearly 47) the man is a marvel of athleticism.
